Using the Live CD

From Ndiyo

The Ndiyo Live CD is a customised version of a standard Ubuntu Live CD. If your PC can boot from a CD, then you should be able to put this in your drive, reboot, and try out a basic Ndiyo system without having to install anything on your hard disk and without upsetting whatever operating system may already be installed on the PC.

Many aspects of the system, including the boot sequence, will, of course, run much more slowly when they are running from a CD than they would from a hard disk, but it will at least give you a feel for Linux in this configuration.

On the desktop you will see an 'Install' icon, which can be used to install Ubuntu on the PC's hard disk if wanted. This process will typically replace any operating system that was there beforehand.

You will also see an icon to start the 'Ndiyo Launcher' application. This shows the Nivos that can be seen on the network and you can select one, then start or stop a desktop session on it.

Users can log in using usernames of 'user1', 'user2' etc, with an empty password.

If you use this disk to install Ubuntu, the Launcher program will not be on the desktop after installation, but will still be accessible by running 'launcher' from the terminal.

When you have finished with your experiments using the Live CD, you can go on to install Ubuntu, or you can shut down the system by selecting the System > Quit... menu item.

Then please return to the System Installation page.
